Seeing a PT before your MD first makes a big difference.

Want to treat your low back pain (LBP) more effectively, use less medication, avoid unnecessary testing, and save money too? See a PT first for LBP. A recent publication supports earlier research indicating that seeing a PT first can have all of the above effects.

Alaska is a direct access state. That means you do not have to see an MD to see a PT. PT's are licensed professionals capable of doing a diagnostic work up and rendering your treatment (and based on this research saving you money, helping you avoid unneeded testing, and getting you better with less medication). If your condition indicated you need to see another professional, a skilled PT can and will direct you in that manner. In most cases that is not required and you can read about it in the article linked below.

At Integrative Physical Therapy we use MDT (Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy). The goal is to accurately diagnosis and classify your LBP. That will determine the treatment and according to research benefit you in many ways, including get rid of your low back pain (and Sciatica too). We have one very few therapists in Alaska with a post graduate diploma level credentialing in MDT. Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have and a free brief phone consultation (907) 561-1711.
