So much better, so fast
“Thank you, it feels so much better”. That is what my patient said after just her first visit. She arrived with raging pain down her left leg with her foot also numb.
How is it possible that she got so much better so quickly? An accurate functional diagnosis and patient education regarding loading strategies regarding how she could self manage it is how. I often encounter patients who are doing stretches that could really help their back pain. Unfortunately, they then follow it up with an exercise that is not indicated and actually undermines the good one they had just performed.
With so much information out there it’s easy to fall into that trap. To make it more challenging, some exercises feel good at the moment but are actually counterproductive in the long term. So how do you know which exercises are indicated for your specific problem and which ones might make you worse?
